Design, Code, Facebook Apps
The BBC needs no introduction. As a broadcaster that is known around the world for some of the most groundbreaking television, it was an honour to work on the promotion of some of their most prized exports.
In 2012, Sir David Attenborough marked a remarkable 60 years of wildlife filmmaking with a brand new series, Attenborough: 60 Years in the Wild.
I helped the BBC celebrate by building a Facebook app featuring a competition to give away a DVD bundle to two lucky winners.
The app included a data capture form as well as a "like gate", requiring users to Like the Facebook Page before entering the competition.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of one of the most successful British comedy exports, the BBC released a special edition box set of The Office, which coincided with The Office being made available on iTunes for the very first time.
I built two Facebook apps; one dedicated to the release of the 10th anniversary box set, the other dedicated to The Office on iTunes. Each app featured an exclusive video message from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
As one would expect with anything involving Sir David Attenborough, the BBC's Frozen Planet was a huge success.
When the epic series became available on DVD and Blu-ray, the BBC wanted an app for the Frozen Planet Facebook Page to highlight the release and provide fans with purchase information.
I built them a Facebook app, showing off the DVD and Blu-ray packaging, as well as a video trailer and a purchase link to the BBC shop.
Following the success of Chris Lilley's Angry Boys in the UK, the BBC released several products including a DVD box set and two CD releases.
I built a Facebook app for each of the products, with purchase buttons, sharing functionality and video content.
The BBC Good Food magazine, along with its companion website, is one of the most popular sources of inspiration for foodies in the UK (and beyond).
To celebrate Christmas 2012, they wanted a Facebook app, allowing users to upload photos of their gingerbread creations and be entered into a competition to have their creations recreated by the Good Food cookery team, professionally photographed and featured on the BBC Good Food website.
Using the CodeIgniter PHP framework, I built them a Facebook app that was secure, provided a solid user experience and, most importantly, looked great!
To mark the 30 years since Only Fools and Horses first appeared on our TV screens, the BBC went all out on Facebook.
I built a variety of apps for the official Only Fools Facebook page, including:
After the success of the Walking with Dinosaurs TV series, the Walking with Dinosaurs worldwide tour has been seen by millions of people in hundreds of cities.
The stunning theatrical event returned to the UK in 2013 and the BBC and the team behind the show were keen to target promotion at the show's strong Facebook following.
I helped them achieve this goal by building a Facebook app featuring a competition to give away a family pass for the show.
The app incorporated data capture as well as a "Like gate", requiring users to Like the Facebook Page before entering the competition, therefore increasing the Walking with Dinosaurs Facebook audience.
